Puthithulappam

Puthithulappam

A special medicinal value appam served during breakfast or dinner, made with Fresh Mint and Basil leaves. A traditional old dish almost forgotten from the interior villages of Karaikudi, Tirunelveli districts. Recipe will be updated in a day's time...

Recipe for Puthithulappam : Take 2 hand full of fresh mint leaves, 2 handful of Basil leaves. Add to mixer and grind to fine paste adding little water. Squeeze the liquid and mix in 1 glass of water and bring to boil, add required salt and 2 tsp of oil. Add this boiled liquid to Rice flour for making Idiyappam and cook in Cooker without whistle for 5 mins and serve hot.

Medical Miracle Podi

Curry leaves - 100 gms, Dried Ginger @ Sukku - 10 gms, Pepper - 10 gms, Thippili @ Kandanthippili - 10 gms, Black Seasame - 50 gms, Urud dhal (Black) - 50 gms, Aaharam Asafoetida - 20 gms.

Sun dry all the ingredients above and powder it and mix well. Have it daily in cooked rice with Ghee / Gingelly oil, according to taste. This Miracle Podi can be had with Idli / Dosa too. This powder controls Asthma, stops cough and cold, digestion troubles, constipation and keeps body in good health. 

இதனால் ஆஸ்துமா நோயாளிகள் இயல்பாக காணப்படுவார்கள், சளி, இருமல், வாயு கோளாறுகள், வயிறு உப்பசம், சீரான கோளாறுகள், மலச்சிக்கல் போன்ற உபாதைகள் உடனே தீருவது திண்ணம்.

Pudhina Rasam

Today's special at home is Pudina Rasam புதினா ரசம்

This rasam is also a traditional one made at our houses in interior villages.  The mint with tamarind cleanses our blood and make us secrete new Red blood cells also.  புதினா, ரத்தத்தை சுத்திகரிக்கும்..  Once in a fortnight, intake of this traditional Pudhina Rasam would result in good effect on our body and makes us fresh always, and gives good relief from Tension, hyper-stress, etc.
தேவையானவை: புதினா – ஒரு கப், மிளகு, தனியா, சீரகம், துவரம்பருப்பு – தலா ஒரு டீஸ்பூன், புளி – எலுமிச்சை அளவு, பெருங்காயம் – சிறிதளவு, கடுகு, நெய் – தலா அரை டீஸ்பூன், உப்பு – தேவையான அளவு.  Fresh Mint Leaves - 1 cup, Pepper, Jeera, Dhaniya and Tur Dhal - 1 tsp each. Tamarind - 1 lemon size soaked and squeezed, Mustard seed, asafoetida 1/2 tsp for tempering, salt, water as required and Ghee - 1tsp.

செய்முறை: வாணலியில் நெய் விட்டு புதினாவை லேசாக வதக்கவும். மிளகு, தனியா, சீரகம், துவரம்பருப்பை ஊற வைக்கவும். புளியைக் கரைத்து உப்பு சேர்த்து கொதிக்கவிடவும். ஊற வைத்த பொருட்களுடன் புதினாவை சேர்த்து நைஸாக அரைக்கவும். புளித் தண்ணீர் கொதித்ததும், அரைத்த புதினா கலவையை சேர்த்து,  ஒரு கொதி வந்ததும், தண்ணீர், உப்பு சேர்த்து, நுரைத்ததும் இறக்கவும். நெய்யில் கடுகு, பெருங்காயம் தாளித்து சேர்க்கவும்.

Miracle Drink

1-apple, 
1-carrot, 
1-beetroot, 
1 inch size ginger and 
3 tsp of sugar... 
Water - as required

Clear / remove skins and chop it.. add to mixer grinder and blend to fine paste... add required water to juice consistency.. and serve chilled.. top up with Mint leaves... your Miracle drink is ready.... fully energetic / vitamins / protiens and highly healthy.... to keep your intestine clean and clensed... especially no acidity and hypertension and your blood cells are pure and active...

Legiyam

Ingredients :
1. Powdered Jaggery - 1/2 cup
2. Pepper/milagu - 2 tbsp
3. Coriander seeds/dhaniya - 2 tbsp
4. Ajwain/omam - 1 tsp
5. Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 tbsp
6. Dry ginger/sukku - 2 pieces
7. Cardamom/elakkai - 4 nos if small, 2 if big
8. Gingelly Oil/nallennai - 2 tbsp
9. Ghee - 1 tsp
Method :
1. Add jaggery in water and bring it to boil. Once jaggery gets dissolved, switch off and strain the jaggery water.
2. Dry roast all the ingredients (from 2 to 7) separately and powder it finely. You can even sieve it. (If you want you can even soak all the ingredients for 2 – 3 hrs and make it a fine paste.)
3. Take jaggery water in a pan and add the powder to it. Mix it well so that no lumps are formed.
4. Sim the stove and keep stirring at regular interval..At one stage it will come to halwa like consistency. It might take around 15 – 20 minutes.
5. Add oil at this stage and keep stirring for further 2 – 3 minutes.
6. Finally add ghee and switch off the stove.
7. Let it cool completely. Transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate. It stays good more than a month.
Note : If you want,you can skip gingelly oil and increase the quantity of ghee.
